CJ van der Linde: Made the move to the Lions
Prop CJ van der Linde will make his first appearance for the Lions when they face Western Province in a Currie Cup semi-final on Saturday.
Van der Linde only met up with the Lions on his return from the World Cup, but despite his limited knowledge of the team's structures, coach John Mitchell has given him a starting berth.
The Lions' second Springbok, Butch James, is forced to contend with a spot on the bench, with Elton Jantjies retaining his place at fly-half.
As expected, Mitchell has made wholesale changes to the second-string team that was hammered 53-9 by the Sharks last weekend.
In the back-line, Alwyn Hollenbach comes in at centre in place of Dylan Des Fountain, with Doppies la Grange moving one over to outside centre. On the wing, Michael Killian comes in for James Kamana who drops to the bench while Burton Francis makes way for Jantjies at fly-half.
Skipper Joshua Strauss switches from flank to number eight in place of Warren Whitely and he is joined in the back row by Derick Minnie and Michael Rhodes who played at lock against the Sharks.
Franco van der Merwe replaces Rhodes in the second row while up front it is all change with Patric Cilliers, Bandise Maku and van der Linde forming an all-new front row.
Golden Lions: 15 Jaco Taute, 14 Deon van Rensburg, 13 Doppies la Grange, 12 Alwyn Hollenbach, 11 Michael Killian, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Michael Bondesio, 8 Joshua Strauss (capt.), 7 Michael Rhodes, 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe, 4 Wikus van Heerden, 3 Patric Cilliers, 2 Bandise Maku, 1 CJ van der Linde.
